Abstract

The world has heard the phrase “peak oil” a number of times in the past 167 years.  It has re-surfaced again recently, as oil industry faces low oil prices and has to lay off thousands of people.  This presentation will review what is typically meant by the term “peak oil”, and propose what might be new this time around. I will also discuss the implications of a potential “peak oil” to the oil industry in general, and US oil industry in particular.  The idea is to encourage a dialogue with the students on the future of oil industry and energy transition.
