Director

Welcome to the University of Houston Petroleum Engineering Program. Our motto is “World-class Petroleum Engineering in the Center of World Petroleum” and we are working hard to live up to that motto.

This is an exciting time for our program as we grow and implement our strategic plan. You can read our news reports for more details, but I would like to highlight

  • We are building a community of petroleum engineers at UH. Our program is just the right size:  small enough for the students and faculty to know each other and large enough to have the extensive industry contacts students need to succeed professionally.
  • We are remodeling a new home in the University of Houston Energy Research Park (UHERP) adjacent to the campus, where we will be one of the flagship energy programs and the first UH program to bring undergraduate instruction there.
  • We are actively recruiting full-time tenure-track faculty to lead our undergraduate program and augment the efforts of our fourteen adjunct faculty instructors in the graduate program.
  • We are actively seeking out the best students from Houston high schools who can meet our highly competitive standards.
  • We are updating and streamlining the undergraduate curriculum to maintain its cutting edge while reducing slightly the number of credits required for a B.S. degree to meet Cullen College of Engineering norms and enable dedicated students to complete their degree in four years.
  • We are engaging with the Houston petroleum industry through our Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board to ensure financial support for our program, to ensure that our best students have scholarship and internship opportunities while in school, and to ensure all our students are well qualified for careers following graduation.

If I sound excited, then you have gotten the message. Check us out. Whether you are a student, a potential faculty member, an industry supporter, alumni, a donor, or a friend,

Welcome to University of Houston Petroleum Engineering.
